  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Czech Minister for European Affairs

    March 27, 2024

Martin Dvořák and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed support for Belarusian democratic forces in their campaign for a European perspective for Belarus and a sanctions policy aimed at isolating the regime while keeping the mobility of Belarusians.

Ms. Tsikhanouskaya’s discussion with the Minister for European Affairs, Martin Dvořák, also addressed Czechia’s visa policy. The Belarusian leader called for more accessible visas (currently the country mainly issues student and humanitarian visas) and proposed new exemptions to the visa ban. Specifically, she proposed lifting the ban on relatives of those residing in the Czech Republic and those holding student visas.

Mr. Dvořák and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also discussed options for supporting Belarusian volunteer fighters in Ukraine (including the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment) and independent Belarusian media.

In addition, the Czech minister and the Belarusian leader discussed cooperation between the Czech authorities, civil society, and the Office of Belarus Democratic Forces in Prague.
