A brief conversation between the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya took place today on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit, marking the two leaders’ first meeting. Canada is participating in the EPC Summit for the first time.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I greatly valued the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister of Canada, a key leader and active member of the G7. We discussed continuing cooperation following his election victory, as well as developing the engagement that began under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. We also focused on support for journalists, the strategic dialogue between Canada and the democratic forces of Belarus, and a possible visit to Ottawa this year”.
In addition, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya held a brief meeting with Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand, and invited Canada to join the International Humanitarian Fund to support those affected by repression in Belarus.
