A meeting between Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Aliaksandr Fiaduta took place in Warsaw. Aliaksandr Fiaduta is a Belarusian literary scholar, political scientist, and publicist who was convicted on politically motivated charges and spent several years in prison. He was released after a long time in prison on December 13, 2025, as a result of the United States’ diplomacy.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and Mr. Fiaduta discussed the situation in Belarus – conditions in prisons, pressure and repression, as well as ways to support political prisoners and their families. They also discussed possible paths toward ending repression and securing the release of all political prisoners.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “When you meet people like Aliaksandr Fiaduta, you once again realize how many strong and dignified people there are in Belarus. I am deeply impressed by how, having endured such difficult trials, he preserved clarity of thought and did not break. It is important for me to have the opportunity to speak with such people, to seek their advice, to hear their experience and perspective. I am glad that there are people in Belarus who, despite everything, remain true to themselves and to their country”.
