Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is on a working visit to London, where she met with the All-Party Parliamentary Group “For Freedom and Democracy in Belarus” in the UK Parliament.
She held a briefing for the politicians and, in her opening remarks, thanked the group for its unwavering support, emphasizing that partner support remains crucial on the path to a democratic Belarus.
The briefing was attended by the group’s Chair, Wendy Morton.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Belarus is rapidly turning into a military workshop for the Russian war machine. 287 state-owned companies are working for the Russian army. They are now building a drone production plant together with Russia, aiming to produce up to 100,000 units per year. All this weaponry is intended either to kill Ukrainians or to organize provocations against Poland and Lithuania.
Our goal is to build a viable alternative to the regime. We must be ready for Belarus after Lukashenka. We do not know when the opportunity will come, but we must be ready to reclaim our country. Change often comes unexpectedly. Dictatorships appear stable until they suddenly collapse.
I often say that the path to peace and security in Europe runs through a free Belarus and a free Ukraine. By helping Ukraine, we help liberate Belarus, and vice versa. And the way to ensure peace in Europe is to establish genuine democracy in our country.
