  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Exiled activists are not criminals. People making Belarus a prison are”

    November 28, 2023

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Today, another wave of mass raids and seizures of property swept across Belarus. Security forces raided and are still raiding the apartments of representatives of the Coordination Council, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office, the United Transitional Cabinet, the National Anti-Crisis Management, and their family members, as well as close relatives of representatives of other democratic organizations and bodies. This is one of the most extensive and barbaric attacks by the regime since 2021.

The regime is harassing Belarusians who work every day for the sake of a change in their country, hunting after them and intimidating their relatives. But the regime’s logic makes every third person in Belarus a terrorist and a criminal. Lukashenka continues to oppress all of us because we do not stop our activities even in exile. They label us terrorists, call us a threat to society, and take our loved ones hostage. But exiled activists are not criminals. The people who continue making Belarus a prison are. The people who use force to destroy any dissent. That is why I ask you to take care of your safety and the safety of your loved ones. There is nothing we value higher than people.

Call your relatives and try to calm them down, ask if they need help. See if you can help those who are already in trouble or afraid of getting into trouble. It is much easier to overcome panic and find solutions together. Please do not forget about the people who are already behind bars and their relatives. Dear Belarusians, we must stick together and continue our work to put an end to this lawlessness and hold all those responsible accountable”.
