The Investigative Committee in Belarus has initiated special proceedings against 20 independent Belarusian analysts. The new law allows the regime to launch trials against Belarusians in absentia, and a notification of the proceedings against them can be considered sufficient if published on the agency’s website.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “The regime is trying to confine the country within an information bubble. It is trying to clear up the information space to prevent the truth from coming to light about the regime’s complete failure in managing the country.
The crackdown against political analysts and experts shows the regime’s desire to retaliate against those who assess the situation in Belarus without prejudice, offering real ways out of the crisis into which Lukashenka has driven the country.
Every time someone points out the true state of affairs in the country, it triggers the regime’s fear. And all it can do to respond is step up repression”.
