  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya briefed ambassadors from 30 countries

    November 29, 2023

The Embassy of Spain in Vilnius organized a meeting between Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and diplomats from 30 countries. Spain currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The meeting focused on the support for political prisoners in Belarus, as well as repressed individuals, and issues related to the legalization of stay in the EU and the issuance of alien passports for Belarusians. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya talked about the progress with the new Belarusian passport project and the recent mass searches targeting activists of the democratic movement.

“Another important priority for 2024 is the European perspective for Belarus. The European Union as an alternative to Lukashenka’s tyranny and the concept of the “Russian world”. Watching how Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia integrate into the EU, people cannot help but wonder – why not Belarus?” noted Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya during the meeting.

The event was attended by EU delegation and ambassadors from the US, Lithuania, Belgium, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Germany, Latvia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Greece, Poland, Croatia, the United Kingdom, Norway, Japan, Armenia, Israel, Moldova, and Canada.
