Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya attended today’s Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo at the invitation of this year’s laureate, María Corina Machado – the Venezuelan opposition leader and prominent defender of democracy who has spent many years fighting for freedom and human rights in her country.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I am at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo today, where María Corina Machado is receiving the Peace Prize.
María Corina has been bravely and relentlessly resisting tyranny in Venezuela, and she deserves this award more than anyone.
Her struggle matters not only for Venezuela. It reminds all of us that resisting dictatorship is a shared global duty.
We in Belarus are going through the same path – through repression, fear, and violence. And today, we remember Ales Bialiatski, our Nobel laureate, who remains behind bars. We continue to fight for him and for all political prisoners in Belarus.
Today, we honor everyone who does not give up, who continues the struggle, who believes in freedom, democracy, and peace. I believe that truth will prevail. And that both Belarus and Venezuela will be free”.
