On October 21, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya attended a screening of Volia Chajkouskaya’s documentary “Not Made for Politics” at the CinEast international film festival in Luxembourg.
Filmed over five years, the documentary tells the stories of Belarusian women who never planned to enter politics but became leaders in the struggle for freedom.
Following the screening, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya joined the discussion titled “Belarus at a Crossroads” with Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies member Paul Galles.
The discussion covered:
- the impact of the events of 2020 on Belarusians’ lives and why women became symbols of the protests;
- the current situation in Belarus, including conditions for political prisoners, new arrests, and ongoing repression;
- the lives of Belarusians in exile, why many cannot return home, and how they preserve their culture and identity;
- why continued international support for Belarus remains essential, even as the struggle for freedom becomes more prolonged.
