On the anniversary of the uprising led by Kastus Kalinouski in 1863-1864, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya honored the graves of its participants.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “This day always feels significant and sacred. Despite the tragic fate of those who fought for independence and freedom over 160 years ago, this date carries great hope and strength. We are still here, remembering and honoring the legacy of our heroes. Our struggle for a sovereign state and Belarusians’ right to determine their own future continues the path they began.
This memory, however, transcends national history. The uprising against Tsarist oppression became a symbol of the shared fight of Belarusians, Poles, and Lithuanians. It reminds us that even in the darkest times, we find strength in solidarity and collective resistance.
Across centuries, we remain grateful to Kastus Kalinouski and all the insurgents for their courage and sacrifice. And we know that future generations will be just as thankful to the Belarusians who continue to fight for a shared future, freedom, and peace”.
