Today, a meeting took place at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs between the Belarusian leader and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis. The politicians discussed Belarusians’ situation regarding the legalization of stay in Lithuania, as well as possible new restrictions that will be discussed in the Lithuanian Seimas in the spring.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked Lithuania for the decision to extend the validity period of humanitarian residence permits for Belarusians from one to three years. The leader emphasized that restrictions against Belarusians and Russians should not be equated, as it only plays into the hands of the regime. She also expressed hope that Lithuania will continue to issue visas and residence permits to Belarusians.
In addition, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya conveyed proposals from her Office, the United Transitional Cabinet, and National Anti-Crisis Management regarding holding the regime accountable and imposing sanctions against its cronies.
