  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya ahead of visit to Washington for NATO Summit: “I want Belarus to be seen as reliable, peaceful, and predictable partner”

    July 09, 2024

From July 9 to 12, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya will visit Washington to participate in the 2024 NATO Summit at the invitation of the NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg. In May, the Belarusian leader met with NATO leadership and addressed the North Atlantic Council in Brussels.

During her visit, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya will speak at various events, discussing the current situation in Belarus and the pressing issues facing the country. She will also highlight the hybrid attacks by the Lukashenka regime against Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus, and potential future developments.

Additionally, the Belarusian leader will discuss the important role of Belarus in regional stability and security, particularly in the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine. She will address several American and international media outlets, focusing on the struggle for democracy in Belarus and regional security issues.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I am glad that the democratic forces of Belarus are engaging in an active dialogue with NATO. The alliance is founded on values that Belarusians share – freedom, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. I believe it is essential for every European country to build respectful and constructive relations with NATO. This is important for Belarus, our national interests, and regional security. I want Belarus to be seen as a reliable, peaceful, and predictable partner.

Let’s see Belarus not only as a threat but also as an opportunity. We must do everything to ensure that Belarus does not become a consolation prize for Putin. During the summit, I will have the opportunity to negotiate with NATO representatives and allies and refine our positions, information exchange processes, and media cooperation”.
