During the meeting, the Belarusian leader informed the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, about the mass raids that took place in Belarus at the homes of the relatives of representatives of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office, the United Transitional Cabinet, the Coordination Council, the National Anti-Crisis Management, and the People’s Embassies. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also noted that many political prisoners have been kept incommunicado for more than a year. Both agreed that considering the ever-intensifying repression against Belarusians, pressure on the Lukashenka regime cannot be softened.
The parties also discussed holding the regime accountable for its involvement in the displacement of Ukrainian children and crimes against humanity. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya called on Mr. Rinkēvičs to support issuing an arrest warrant for Lukashenka.
At the end of the meeting, the Belarusian leader raised the issue of Belarus’ European perspective and noted that Belarusians need an alternative to the “Russian world”. She called for supporting the European aspirations of Belarusians and finding solutions to the problems related to legalization of stay in Latvia. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also informed the President about the project of the new Belarusian passport and asked for support for this initiative.
