On October 6–7, the Alliance of Parliamentary Groups “For Democratic Belarus” held a meeting in Paris. It brought together more than a hundred participants, including members of parliament from fourteen European countries, representatives of two international organizations, Belarusian experts, activists, and members of the United Transitional Cabinet and the Coordination Council.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Frédéric Petit, Chair of the “For Democratic Belarus” Group in the French Parliament, delivered keynote addresses.
The conference was held in a discussion format. Participants addressed interparliamentary cooperation, the role of France and Europe in supporting democratic change in Belarus, ways to improve the situation of Belarusians in exile, mobility issues, European policy toward Belarus, accountability of the regime, and the situation of political prisoners. Former prisoners released in recent months also took part in the event.
The meeting also included a conversation with the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, who hosted a formal reception for the participants, answered questions, and reaffirmed France’s full support for democratic change in Belarus.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Paris Memorandum and plans to hold another meeting in early 2026.
The event was organized by the French National Assembly and the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
