  • Statement by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Legal Advisor Leanid Marozau on the presentation of the Belarusian civil society’s Alternative SDG Report

    July 17, 2025

Belarusian civil society has released its Alternative Report on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Implementation ahead of the presentation of the Belarus regime’s Voluntary National Review at the UN. The 83-page document exposes manipulations hidden behind official statistics and reflects the true situation in the country.

Leanid Marozau: “Your work is not just analysis. It is an act of civic courage. Thanks to you, the world can see the reality behind the facade without embellishment or manipulation”.

The pro-regime report will be presented on July 18. As usual, the authorities will portray Belarus as a “leader” in achieving the SDGs. However, behind this rhetoric lie the dismantling of trade unions, propaganda in place of education, the lack of domestic violence legislation, the deaths of political prisoners caused by the lack of medical care, and the complete exclusion of civil society from the SDG implementation process.

Belarusian civil society insists that without freedom, human rights, and people’s participation, there can be no sustainability. Progress is only possible through truth and open dialogue.
