Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is on a working visit to Romania, where she met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminița Odobescu. During the dialogue, the leader emphasized the need to pressure the Lukashenka regime and hold it accountable through the International Criminal Court. She also called on Romania to appoint a special envoy for Belarus.
The discussions addressed the issues related to the legalization of stay faced by Belarusians in Romania, including the availability of alien passports, as well as Schengen visas for Belarusians within the country. The leader called for issuing multiple-entry visas to maintain Belarusians’ mobility. Additionally, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya urged Romania to consider issuing humanitarian visas.
The politicians also discussed launching a scholarship program for Belarusian students. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya proposed that the program also covers researchers to enable them to work in Romanian universities.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Odobescu and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed rehabilitation programs in Romania for the children of the repressed.
