Between the sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the leader of Belarus’ democratic forces recorded a brief address to Belarusians who continue to support each other despite the recent mass repressions against people who made donations to democratic organizations and solidarity foundations.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Dear friends! The regime in Belarus continues to arrest people for mutual assistance, words and gestures of support, and donations.
Just yesterday, you were heroes for delivering masks and gloves to doctors and cleaning the streets after Xavier. And today, you turned out to be “extremists”. It doesn’t matter that your donation helped an elderly lady, a cancer patient, or the children of political prisoners. Look at the banners around: “Did a good deed? Welcome to jail!” In a normal world, these banners would feature your faces and words of gratitude from the people you helped and from the state that is proud of you.
My dear friends! I know you will continue to support each other. But please, while doing good deeds, take care of yourselves. Prioritize safety and follow precautions. And remember: no law can ever make Belarusians stop caring for each other”.
