Polish MPs agreed to form the group “For a Democratic Belarus” in January during Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s working visit to Warsaw. In February, an agreement was reached that the group would be chaired by a member of the Polish Sejm and the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Michal Szczerba.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor for Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation, Anatoli Liabedzka, commented on the group’s activities: “The group held its first meeting on March 6. Preparations are now underway for a joint meeting involving the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Polish Sejm and Senate and the group “For a Democratic Belarus”, during which a hearing on Belarus will be held”.
