  • Kristina Rikhter took part in meeting of working group on migration issues in Poland

    November 07, 2023

Today, another meeting of the working group at the Ministry of the Interior of Poland took place. The Belarusian side was represented by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Legal Affairs, Kristina Rikhter, and the Director of the Legal Aid Department at Belarusian Solidarity Center, Volha Dabravolskaya.

The parties discussed the issues of legalizing the stay of Belarusian citizens’ children born in Poland. Currently, Belarusians face difficulties in legalizing the stay of their newborn children in Poland. Representatives of the Polish Ministry of the Interior stated that resolving this issue is now a priority.

The meeting also raised issues related to the Polish travel document, which can replace an expired Belarusian passport when traveling abroad. The Belarusian side proposed recognizing the travel document as a personal identification document and extending its validity period. The proposals will be discussed within the Polish Ministry of the Interior.

Ministry of the Interior representatives noted that the working group will continue its activities beyond the political format at the level of consultations, which will allow for more practical solutions to improve the situation of Belarusians in Poland.
