Today, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Bundestag and called on its members to adopt a resolution on Belarus. After debates, the German Parliament adopted the resolution “In support of a democratic Belarus in the European family”.
The resolution states: “The German Bundestag firmly stands on the side of the entire Belarusian democratic movement, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, and the United Transitional Cabinet led by her. Belarusians should know that a free and democratic Belarus will be welcomed into the family of European states”.
The Bundestag’s resolution welcomes the restrictive measures already imposed against the Lukashenka regime and calls on the Federal Government to continue the pressure. At the same time, the resolution pledges support for Belarus’ independent media, democratic institutions, and civil initiatives. In addition, it provides for assistance and rehabilitation for political prisoners and those affected by repression.
The resolution also addresses the legal issues faced by Belarusians in exile. The Bundestag will help resolve the problems Belarusians face when obtaining legal documents.
