  • Franak Viacorka: “We must make sure Belarusians do not fight against Belarusians”

    October 11, 2024

In an interview with the Czech publication Forum24, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Chief Advisor, Franak Viacorka, spoke on:

    📎 Possible successors to Lukashenka:
“A moment will come when Lukashenka will fall, disappear, be killed, flee, or something else. Only two options will remain: Either the Russians will try to put their creature in charge of the country, or Tsikhanouskaya will come to power. She is the person from the democratic side who can claim power”.

📎 The current situation in Belarus:
“I don’t think the situation is dramatic. But as a nation, we are hostages of the war and the geopolitical situation. There are a lot of things that depend not only on Belarusians. In peace negotiations on Ukraine, we must demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from both Ukraine and Belarus. This is the only way to ensure long-term peace”.

    📎 The regime’s nightmares:
“Lukashenka is panicking, he’s nervous. He talks about Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, our foreign partners, and the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment as his worst nightmares”.

    📎 Possible power transition:
“We want a peaceful transition of power. We must do everything we can to prevent a civil war. We must make sure that Belarusians do not fight against Belarusians. This is the most important thing”.

📎 Where the democratic forces have the lead:
“Our great advantage is having legitimate representation. Foreign leaders refer to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as the president. Over the past few years, we have proven reliable partners. We have official relations with the US, the UK, and the European Union, and we have signed a memorandum with the European Parliament. This is a major achievement”.
