  • Latvian Saeima abstained from restricting Belarusian vehicles from entering Latvia

    October 25, 2023

Last week, representatives of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Office, Anatol Liabedzka and Vitaly Malchanau, met with the group “For a Democratic Belarus” in the Latvian Saeima (Parliament). As a result of the meeting, the Saeima Economic Policy Committee decided to abstain from banning vehicles with Belarusian license plates from entering the country.

“During the meeting, we found the right words and arguments to convince the MPs to remove restrictions against Belarusian citizens from the draft law on road traffic. This amendment was supported at the Committee meeting, which is why this issue is no longer on the agenda for Belarusians living in Latvia”, commented Anatoli Liabedzka, Advisor to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya for the Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation.

He also emphasized the importance of creating “For a Democratic Belarus” groups in national parliaments, as they can help Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Office resolve the issues faced by Belarusians living abroad.
