European countries are actively discussing a boycott or moving the 2021 IIF World Championship from Minsk. Earlier, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya raised boycotting at meetings with the foreign ministers of Sweden, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Slovakia, and representatives of Switzerland. Earlier, in a conversation with the Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, she discussed options for moving the championship from Minsk.
“Most countries do not want to participate in Lukashenka’s political show. While there are more than 160 political prisoners in Belarus and thousands are in prison, there can be no discussion of any sports event. Our partners support us in this”, said Tsikhanouskaya.
According to Tsikhanouskaya, the Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin, Director of the Danish Hockey Association Ulrik Larsen, the Vice President of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF Kalervo Kummola, deputies of the Bundestag, the US Congress, and others have already spoken in support of the moving or boycott of Ice Hockey Championship.
