The Cross-Party Forum “8+100” was held in the European Parliament, bringing together representatives of Belarusian and European political parties. Anatoli Liabedzka, Advisor to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya for the Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation, spoke about the results of the Forum:
“The Forum “8+100” started when eight Belarusian parties declared in the European Parliament: we are working toward a positive change in Belarus. More than 100 European parties made a statement to the Lukashenka regime: for us, these 8 parties represent the Belarusian people, and we support them, we cooperate with them. We already have several practical results:
- Next week, the European Parliament will adopt a resolution on the situation with political prisoners in Belarus. We hope it will announce the creation of an international fund to support our heroes.
- Forum participants expressed their support for the European perspective for Belarus.
- The Forum stated the illegitimacy of Lukashenka’s “election” scheduled for 2024 and stressed that its results must not be recognized by the international community”.
