Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her Office team arrived in Rome. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya spoke at a hearing in the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, where a strategy on Belarus was discussed. The Belarusian leader urged the senators to speak in defense of Belarus' independence, support democratic forces in inter-parliamentary organizations, and take patronage over political prisoners. She also thanked Italy for continuing to issue visas to Belarusians; Italy is one of the leading countries in this matter.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya had a separate meeting with Senator and former Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, who has been actively supporting Belarus since 2020.
Another meeting was held with Pierre Cassini, former Speaker of Parliament, who has initiated several discussions on Belarus in Parliament since 2020.
In the evening Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya briefed the diplomatic corps in Rome. Ambassadors and diplomats from more than 40 countries took part in the briefing. She spoke about the situation in Belarus, expectations from the NATO summit, and the steps Belarusians expect from the international community.
Tomorrow, July 6. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya will meet with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, the speakers and deputy speakers of Parliament, and leaders of political groups and parties, as well as address the lower house of Parliament.
