    January 26, 2026

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has appointed a new Advisor on Environment – Dzmitry Kuchuk. His responsibilities will include developing positions on environmental policy, expanding cooperation with Belarusian and international green organizations, and coordinating events marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster, including the organization of the Chornobyl Way march. Dzmitry will also take part in preparing reforms and legislative initiatives for a New Belarus. He will serve in a non-staff capacity.

Dzmitry Kuchuk is the chair of the Green Party, which was dissolved by the regime in Belarus; a former political prisoner (released on September 11, 2025, as a result of the United States’ diplomacy); and an expert in waste management. He has been actively involved in the democratic opposition since 2002, a member of the Green Party since 2008, and has held leadership positions since 2010. An entrepreneur since 1993, he is the owner and shareholder of several companies.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya welcomes Dzmitry Kuchuk in his new role: “An important task now is the preparation of events marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. This is relevant in the context of the war, nuclear threats, and the possible construction of a new nuclear power plant unit. I believe that Dzmitry’s experience and professionalism will help us promote the ideas of sustainable environmental development and strengthen ties with civil society”.

Dzmitry Kuchuk thanks her for the trust and appointment: “We will work together for an environmentally sustainable New Belarus”.
