  • Meeting with a speaker of Swedish Parliament and leaders of the MFA of Sweden

    November 18, 2020

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with a speaker of Swedish Parliament and leaders of the MFA of Sweden. She called on Sweden to refocus financial assistance programs to finance the civil society instead of Lukashenka’s regime. It is about 24 million euro, that is supposed to be directed to help the striking workers, journalists, activists, human rights activists and all the initiatives fighting for the freedom of Belarus.

During the meeting with Swedish parliamentarians, Sviatlana discussed the support of a mid-term program of stabilization before new elections in Belarus. This program – up to 150 million euro – includes support of small business, workers, students and everyone who suffered from the repressions.

Swedish deputies pledged to support in the matter or cancelling or moving the World Ice Hockey Championship from Belarus and pressure on companies that continue cooperating with the regime’s plants that repress the striking ones.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya reported that she had handed over the Taraikousky list to Brussels and called on the EU to impose sanctions, including the economic ones, on the companies connected to Lukashenka. Sviatlana emphasized that the help to Belarusian society, as well as sanctions are very urgent issues: “Every day of delayed actions means dozens of the beaten, the injured and, possibly, the murdered. We expect unanimous positions of all the countries that are concerned about human rights and democracy”.
