“Yesterday, on April 25, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya finished her visit to Berlin, where she delivered the annual Berlin Freedom Speech at the Brandenburg Gate, held working meetings with Germany's Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, German Chancellor Advisor Jens Plötner, and US Ambassador to Germany Amy Gutmann.
In Berlin, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also commenced the work of the Democratic Belarus parliamentary group in the Bundestag and spoke before the committees on foreign policy and European affairs, directors of Germany's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the special representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on Eastern Europe. In addition, during the visit, she met with representatives of the Belarusian diaspora and expert community.
- As a result of the visit:
- Germany will continue to issue visas in Minsk, with unlimited issuance of humanitarian visas.
- Support for Belarusian independent media, including the Belarusian service of Deutsche Welle, will be increased.
- Ms. Tsikhanouskaya asked the German Foreign Ministry to assist Belarusian volunteer fighters in Ukraine. The discussion concerned the transfer of vehicles to the Kastus Kalinouski regiment.
- Joint measures were discussed to exert pressure on the regime to prevent the stationing of nuclear weapons and achieve the release of political prisoners.
- German MPs will join the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus on May 21.
- An agreement was reached with the US Ambassador to organize a meeting for representatives of Belarusian businesses and American companies in Germany.
- In the fall, a large meeting of parliamentary groups For Democratic Belarus from 17 countries will take place.
- Ms. Tsikhanouskaya proposed individual EU sanctions against judges and prosecutors involved in political persecution.
- It was agreed to hold hearings or a side event on Belarus at the summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Vancouver.
- Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya asked Germany not to appoint a new ambassador to Minsk and abstain from presenting credentials to Lukashenka.
