One of the most significant political events of December concluded today in Washington. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, accompanied by representatives of the democratic forces, and U.S. politicians conducted three days of negotiations as part of the Belarus-USA Strategic Dialogue. On the last day, the discussions centered around:
– Support for Belarusian culture, language, and national identity.
– Educational opportunities for Belarusian youth and entrepreneurs;
– Assistance to the Belarusian diaspora, especially Belarusians in the USA.
Following the conclusion of the Strategic Dialogue, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke at the Atlantic Council and announced the establishment of working groups to address issues such as the release of political prisoners, combating disinformation, and supporting civil society. The Belarusian leader emphasized that the Strategic Dialogue will make the cooperation between democratic forces and the U.S. more coordinated and effective.
“We have to show Belarusians the positive alternative to the “Russian world”, the future they can have after the collapse of the regime. We have to show Belarusians that in the process of democratic transition, they will have support from the powerful democratic allies like the US”, noted the Belarusian leader during her address.
