  • Results of the work of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office for the week of December 20-26

    December 26, 2021

    COVID pandemic and vaccines delivery

    – The Belarusian Medical Solidarity Foundation, aided by the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, compiled a new report on the current situation in the healthcare system. The report provides data regarding the October 2021 mortality peak, tenfold falsification of official statistics, the real situation at the hospitals, and the average admission rate of 20 to 50 patients a day.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a call with medics of the Belarusian Medical Solidarity Foundation. They discussed the elaboration of the healthcare system vision for the new Belarus and the updates on WHO’s negotiations regarding the delivery of over 1 million EU-financed vaccines to Belarus.

    Support for political prisoners

    – On November 31, the Freedom Postcards initiative shared an Advent calendar and thus launched the marathon of solidarity with political prisoners ending on December 25. Thanks to Belarusians and friends of Belarus across the globe, political prisoners will receive hundreds of postcards, political prisoners’ children will get more presents from A Country to Live in foundation, and Belarusians will be sure that they will never be abandoned.

    – Freedom Postcards designed a set of New Year’s cards with political prisoners’ drawings from their letters. Follow the link to download the cards for printing. You can also get a card in exchange for a donation that will be redirected to the Letters in Grid initiative which enables easy and free correspondence with political prisoners.

A Prison to Live in Telegram channel, maintained for sharing updates from Siarhei Tsikhanouski who was sentenced to 18 years in prison, launched a chat-bot for his letters. If you receive a letter from Siarhei, please, share it with the bot.

Action plan for the unlawful “referendum”

    – 73% of the polled Belarusians are already planning to support the democratic forces’ common strategy to invalidate the ballots, thus nullifying the “referendum”. The Voice platform relaunched for Belarusians to record their actions at the “referendum” and has already started a poll regarding people’s support for the common strategy as well as created its website

    Public outreach

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Franak Viacorka, Valery Kavaleuski, and Alexandra Logvinova held an open conversation with Belarusians, answered their pointed questions and criticism.

Following the conversation, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked Belarusians for their opinions: “The way I answer the question may not meet your expectations. But I am ready to hear a different opinion, discuss and admit mistakes when I am not right. And I want to remain a person to talk to and be heard”.

The Office maintains different channels of communication. You can use the channels listed on the website, as well as the Telegram chatbot. There is a separate chatbot for local community activists. Belarusians who want to support democratic forces, share opinions, ask questions, and suggest ideas without joining local communities may become volunteers of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office.

The Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, but reminds Belarusians to wear masks, vaccinate with any available vaccine, keep social distance, and, if possible, work from home. Stay safe and take care of the people who surround you!
