  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for June 3

    June 04, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on June 3.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • In 2020, Belarusian Aliaksei Frantskevich opened the Belarusian Crisis Center in Lviv to help Belarusians fleeing the country with housing, employment, legal and psychological issues in Ukraine. Now the Center is supporting Ukrainians, too. Its founder Aliaksei gave an interview to DW.
    • The BYSOL Foundation sent another van to Ukraine. Belarusians had raised the funds for the purchase.
    • Latvian MPs formed a group For a Democratic Belarus in the Saeima. The group will protect the rights of Belarusians in Latvia, prevent discrimination, and help with legalization.
    • Belarusians of Lithuania and Delfi journalists held a match in support of politically imprisoned football player and sports journalist Aliaksandr Ivulin. Former political prisoners and refugees from Belarus played for the Belarusian team.
    • The Budzma Belarusami initiative launched a Telegram bot to track Belarusian events around the world.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project tracked the movements of Russian troops in Belarus for June 2.
    • Hajun also reviewed the state propaganda coverage of the war in Ukraine for May 31. Lukashenkа yet again claimed that Ukraine will soon lose the war.
    • BYPOL, the union of former law enforcers, analyzed the “people's militia” that the regime is planning to create: the militia will be tasked with protecting the dictatorship when Lukashenka drags Belarus into the war.
    • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya stated that the regime had given an order for the Belarusian troops to attack Ukraine. She said the top officers understood that the soldiers were demoralized, so they “did not let the order pass further”.

    Awareness campaign

    • BYPOL released an investigation revealing the names of the regime's security officers involved in the repression, who fled to the EU.
    • The new issue of Chestnaja Gazeta underground outlet discusses economic issues, huge inflation, and wages and pensions, which are declining for the fifth month in a row. Belarusians distribute underground press to counter the regime's propaganda.
