The group includes 30 MPs from almost all German political factions in the Bundestag: Social Democrats, Conservatives, Liberals, and Greens.
During her speech, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya noted that the Belarusian issue unites German politics rather than divides it, which is a very important signal. She called on the MPs to join the International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners on May 21 and support the campaign. She also urged them to send letters to political prisoners and take patronage over them. She called for a resolution in defense of Belarusian sovereignty outlining strategic principles of German policy towards Belarus.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also called for public statements on the anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster regarding nuclear weapons, as the regime is taking 9 million people hostage by stationing Russian weapons on the country's territory. This is a threat to Europe, but above all, a threat to Belarus's independence.
An arrangement was made to hold a meeting of representatives of parliamentary groups of Friends of Belarus from different countries in the fall, in September or October. The MPs also agreed to establish cooperation between their political parties and political parties from Belarus that the Lukashenka government has been liquidating. In addition, the meeting focused on keeping Belarus on the international agenda.
