  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for May 10

    Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.  

    Here is an overview of the Movement on May 10. 

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians 

    • Belarusian Volha Adamovich has hosted 2500 refugees from Ukraine at her home in Lublin, Poland. After establishing cooperation with volunteers from the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy and France, she also receives and stores humanitarian aid from these countries for refugees. 
    • Belarusians in the Czech Republic made a short film about Rufina Bazlova, a Belarusian known for her creative work and Belarusian traditional folk embroidery. In the video, Rufina talks about her works which are more than just ornaments, as the drawings on the national costumes she makes touch upon relevant events and issues. 
    • Yuliya Yukhno, an activist of the association of Belarusians in Italy, spoke at the National FILCA CISL congress in Bergamo. She talked about the Belarusians' struggle against the dictatorship and support for Ukraine, noting that Belarusians must be distinguished from the regime. 
    • Belarusians in Warsaw gathered for an anti-war rally. 
    • Belarusian Anisiya Kazliuk volunteers in Lviv to help Ukrainians. She had previously worked at the Viasna Human Rights Centre and was forced to leave Belarus after the crackdown that started in 2020. BYSOL told her story
    • “If it hadn’t been for our intelligent revolution in 2020, Belarusian soldiers would be fighting against Ukraine today”. Belarusian and American political consultant Vitali Shkliarau argues that peaceful protests in 2020 were the very reason that prevented Belarus from full-scale involvement in Russia's war against Ukraine. 
    • The Belarusian Free Choir is launching a series of charity concerts in support of Ukraine. The first concert will take place on May 20th at 7 p.m in Warsaw, Sala widowiskowa Broadway, ul. Rzymowskiego 32.
    • On May 15th at 4 p.m., the Center for Belarusan Solidarity will hold a training session by Asya Makhno on providing first aid to the injured. Asya is a former paramedic and Belarus’ champion in Muay Thai. 
    • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament. She talked about rail partisans and drew attention to the repression count in Belarus, which is still growing and is now close to 50 thousand. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya’s visit to the Czech Republic takes place against the backdrop of reports that the country might impose a ban on issuing visas and residence permits to Belarusians and expel Belarusian students from Czech universities. This is the very issue that Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya seeks to resolve. 
    • The volunteers of DAR in Wroclaw, Poland, helped a young woman and her 1.7-year-old child with necessary clothing, toys, a pram for the baby, etc. 
    • Belarusians in Szczecin, Poland, held an action to commemorate the children killed by Russian troops in Ukraine.
