Some believe that the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya only deals with issues faced by Belarusians abroad. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Chief Advisor, Franak Viacorka, explained in an interview how the Office works for the benefit of those inside the country.
- “Information sharing. This is important for us to do, and the people themselves should too. Every Belarusian must decide for themselves how much they are willing to risk”.
- “Supporting people’s mobility. People should have the opportunity to both rehabilitate and simply meet with friends. This is something we constantly advocate for”.
- “Legal and psychological help within the country. This is another opportunity for Belarusians that we strive to support”.
- “I don’t think I have the right to tell people inside Belarus what they should do. I can only say that patience is key. We must remember that Belarusians inside the country and Belarusians abroad are one nation. This is what the regime is trying to destroy”.
- “We need to set ambitious goals and defend our interests, regardless of how challenging it may be. One such goal is the new Belarusian passport – if we achieve this, it will be a precedent. And there is already significant progress on this issue”.
