Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.
Here is an overview of the Movement for the week of May 23-29.
Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians
- Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office opened a headquarters in Ukraine. Valery Kavaleuski explained what it will focus on. Unblocking the bank accounts of Belarusians, migration, and other issues will be on the agenda.
- The BYSOL Foundation sent another van to Ukraine along with four fully equipped tactical medical backpacks for medics.
- Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora met with Estonian MPs and representatives of the Estonian Foreign Ministry and Ministry of the Interior. They spoke about the situation in Belarus and raised the issue of renewing visa and residence permit issuance for Belarusians in Estonia.
- Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Tatsiana Khomich, and Veranika Tsapkala spoke together at the Oslo Freedom Forum. They told about two years of Belarus' struggle for freedom and urged the forum guests to support Belarusians.
- The BYSOL Foundation has processed over 10,000 hotline inquiries since the start of the war.
- The Viasna Human Rights Center released a parcel guide for prisoners to make it easier for Belarusians to collect parcels and packages.
- A delegation from Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's office, headed by Head of the Cabinet Valery Kavaleuski, arrived in Kyiv. They delivered vehicles for Belarusian volunteers, equipment and ammunition, as well as food.
- The Support Woman action group sent the first batch of medicines to Ukraine to support women affected by violence.
- Belarusians donated tourniquets and bandages to the territorial defense in Lviv.
- The Zvyano Public Association, Belarusian Medical Solidarity Foundation, and Supolka Association of Belarusians in Italy embarked on transferring VAC devices for the treatment of Ukrainian military wounds to Ukrainian hospitals.
- Poland will start accepting applications from Belarusians for humanitarian visas and residence permits in July.
- Counselors of the Belarusian platform WEMAYHELP 2.0 help those affected by the war in Ukraine recover their mental health.
- Belarusians of Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia, France, London, Bydgoszcz, Bialystok, Batumi held rallies in support of Belarusians, Ukrainians, and political prisoners.
Resistance
- Partisans in Homiel hung out the national flag.
- Belarusians in Minsk protested against fascism, stalinism and rashism.
- Residents of Vawkavysk put up banners in support of political prisoner Mikalai Autukhovich, charged with ‘terrorism’.
- Belarusians of Minsk supported singer Marharyta Liauchuk and her parents, who had been detained and fined as revenge on their daughter.
- Minsk residents ran a boat with Belarus’ national flag.
- Belarusians in Hrodna wrote anti-war messages of solidarity with the people of Ukraine and Belarusian political prisoners.
Sabotage
- BYPOL, a union of former security officers, released a piece proving that Mikalai Markau, a general of the Belarusian Armed Forces, had been fighting for Russia in Ukraine. BYPOL shared some of his personal details and explained his involvement in the war.
Awareness campaign
- Media IQ released a video on the manipulation of history, the “rebranding” of Stalin, and the “right” version of the past. The video may help target the regime’s disinformation and propaganda in the year it announced a “Year of Historical Memory”.
- Minsk residents released a new issue of 7 Chizei, a local newspaper, covering new acts of resistance, the Anti-War Movement, and the story of a political prisoner. Belarusians distribute underground media to counter the regime's propaganda.
- The Chestnaja Gazeta underground media outlet new issue features the story of a Russian military man who pleaded guilty to murdering an unarmed Ukrainian, Natallia Dulina's story about her arrest, an interview with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who entered the presidential race exactly 2 years ago, and much more.
