Belarusian citizens will soon be able to apply for temporary residence permits in Lithuania through VFS Global offices in Armenia and Georgia. This was announced by Lithuania’s Ministry of the Interior.
From November 1, applications for temporary residence permits can be submitted directly in Armenia and Georgia through VFS Global. Belarusians staying in these countries will no longer have to travel to other countries or return to Belarus. Applications will no longer be accepted in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, or Bosnia and Herzegovina from the same date.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office has regularly raised the issue of accessible and safe procedures for legal stay with its Lithuanian partners. This decision is the result of joint efforts.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Legal Affairs, Leanid Marozau: “This is a practical result of our work with Lithuanian partners. We have long raised the issue of allowing Belarusians in Georgia and Armenia to submit their applications where they are. We are grateful to the Lithuanian side for hearing our arguments and finding a practical solution. For many Belarusians, this will make the process of legalizing their status in Lithuania significantly easier”.
According to the Lithuanian Migration Department, as of September 1, 2026, 47,872 Belarusian citizens held residence permits in Lithuania, more than 33,000 of whom had obtained temporary residence permits on the basis of employment.
