  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for May 24

    May 25, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on May 24.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • Vyshyvanka Day was held in Seattle, where Belarusians demonstrated authentic Ukrainian clothes. Funds from the show will be used for food and medicine delivery to Ukraine.
    • Viasna has released a parcel guide for prisoners to make it easier for Belarusians to collect parcels and packages.
    • A delegation from Tsikhanouskaya’s Office headed by Valery Kovalevsky arrived in Kyiv (on the photo). They delivered vehicles for Belarusian volunteers, equipment and ammunition, as well as food. Kovalevsky and his team plan to hold meetings with the Ukrainian government, deputies, journalists, and experts.

    Resistance

    • Gomel partisans remind what kind of government they want.
    • Belarusians of Chizhovka protest against fascism, stalinism and rashism.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun project, which monitors the movements of Russian troops in Belarus, released an operational summary on May 23
    • Also, Hajun published a review of the main events of Belarusian propaganda about the war in Ukraine on May 24: the regime is trying again to play the peacemaker card, as if everyone had forgotten that it was Lukashenka who allowed Russian troops to be deployed on the territory of Belarus.

    Awareness campaign

    • On May 25, a webinar will be held on the topic “How not to become an extremist?” Pavel Sapelko, a lawyer from the Viasna Human Rights Center, is invited as speaker. More information here.
    • The Research Center of the Sviatlana Tsikhanovskaya’s Office together with partners has released an analytical document with information on the attitude of Belarusians towards the war. It also indicates what Ukrainians think about Belarusians and whom they blame for what is happening. We have collected key information for you – you can read the full analytics here.
    • The head of the BYSOL Foundation Andrei Strizhak spoke live on the Kiev TV channel about how Belarusians help Ukrainians, what they are doing for the victory of Ukraine in the war, and reminded that Belarusians are not the regime.
    • Sviatlana Tsikhanovskaya spoke at the Seimas of Lithuania. She stated that Belarus should not become a bargaining chip in possible agreements with Putin and added that only with a free Ukraine and free Belarus can Europe be safe.
