Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “25 political prisoners have been released!
I am happy for every person who has finally found themselves free today, just like I am happy for their families and loved ones who have been waiting for this day.
We also see how difficult negotiations on such releases are. Every release requires tremendous effort, and it is clear that Lukashenka does not want to release all political prisoners.
That is why I am grateful to the United States for the difficult negotiations that are continuing. It is important that, despite all the challenges, these efforts are producing a practical humanitarian result — people are being released. That is precisely why this work must not stop. The United States and Europe must continue coordinating their efforts and supporting the process of securing people’s release.
Today, alongside our joy for those who have been released, we remember those who remain behind bars. There are hundreds of them. Behind every number is a person, their family, and their loved ones who continue to wait.
Every person released is a victory. So today’s release is another humanitarian result, but it is far from the end of this process. The work must continue until all political prisoners are free.
We will welcome those who have been released, help them rebuild their lives after imprisonment, and continue reminding the world about everyone who is still waiting for their day of freedom”.
