Today, September 10, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited the Free Belarus Museum, where she explored exhibitions by contemporary Belarusian artists. She viewed two exhibitions.
- “The First Undemocratic Ones” — an exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of the 2001 presidential election. The exhibition offers a look at history through street campaign materials, items from the Zubr Youth Movement, and personal artifacts belonging to campaign participants. It is an important reminder of how Belarusians fought for their rights under censorship and state pressure a quarter of a century ago.
- “Life in Boxes” — a project by Belarusian artist Hanna Musaliova. It is a personal and candid story of Belarusians in exile, told through paintings on cardboard boxes. Through these objects, which have become a symbol of temporariness for many, the artist reflects on the search for home, memory, and loneliness in exile.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Culture is what unites us. That is why it is so important to support cultural initiatives that preserve our history and reflect on the contemporary Belarusian experience. I am grateful to everyone who creates these projects and helps us remember who we are and what we are fighting for. I sincerely recommend that Belarusians in Warsaw visit the museum if they have the time. The exhibitions are on display until September 11 — they are worth seeing and experiencing for each and every one of us”.
