During her visit to Prague, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke at the Václav Havel Library. More than 120 people attended the public discussion and meeting with Ms. Tsikhanouskaya, including diplomats, experts, activists, and the Belarusian diaspora.
The discussion focused on political prisoners in Belarus, Belarus–Ukraine relations, regional security, the situation inside the country, as well as support for Belarusian culture and civil society in exile. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked the Czech Republic for its consistent support for Belarusians and called for continued pressure on the regime.
The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “More than 800 political prisoners remain behind bars in Belarus. Their only ‘crime’ is that they wanted to live in a free country. We are grateful to the United States for its efforts to secure the release of our people, and our goal is not merely partial releases, but a complete end to repression”.
