Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “This is a great joy and a huge relief. 250 political prisoners are now free and can embrace their loved ones. This is always the most joyful moment – when a person is reunited with their family after having to go through unjust imprisonment.
It is especially important that, thanks to the efforts of the United States, 235 people have remained at home in Belarus, with their families. Fifteen people have been evacuated to Lithuania – they are already safe and will receive all necessary support.
I am sincerely grateful to Donald Trump, John Coale, Chris Smith, and the entire United States administration, which continues to work tirelessly to secure people’s release. These humanitarian efforts deliver results and save lives.
I also thank all our partners who, together with us, are persistently working to secure the release of all political prisoners, put an end to repression, and bring real change to Belarus.
But we must remember that many people remain behind bars. Our goal is for everyone to be released and for repression to finally end so that each and every person can return home”.
