    January 18, 2026

    On January 15, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting with members of the Lithuanian Seimas Group “For a Democratic Belarus”. Representatives of both the ruling coalition and the opposition took part in the meeting. The group is headed by Ruslanas Baranovas, who represents the governing Social Democratic Party.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya congratulated her Lithuanian partners on Lithuania’s Day of the Defenders of Freedom, marked on January 13, and thanked them for their principled support for Belarus and the Belarusian people.

    The parties discussed:

    • the security and political situation;
    • next steps toward the release of political prisoners;
    • the status of sanctions on the transit of potash fertilizers;
    • challenges faced by Belarusians in Lithuania;
    • the situation around the Belarusian Community and Culture Center in Vilnius;
    • the group’s work plan for 2026.

    They also discussed preparations for a cooperation agreement between the Lithuanian Seimas and the democratic forces of Belarus. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs, and its Chair Remigijus Motuzas for approving the document.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya invited MPs to join the fourth meeting of the Interparliamentary Alliance “For a Democratic Belarus”, which will take place in London, and proposed to hold the next meeting in Lithuania during Lithuania’s Presidency of the European Union.
