On October 15, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Legal Affairs, Leanid Marozau, delivered a report at the side event “On the Human Rights Situation in Belarus”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the informal OSCE “Friends of Democratic Belarus” Group as part of the 2025 OSCE Warsaw Human Dimension Conference.
The discussion also included Sviatlana Halauniova (Viasna), Volha Loika (Plan B Media), and concluded with a statement from France’s Special Envoy for Belarus, Violaine Billette de Villemeur. Participants and guests included representatives of the diplomatic missions of Germany, Sweden, France, and other countries, as well as international human rights organizations.
The Permanent Representative of Germany to the OSCE in Vienna, Susanne Schutz, delivered opening remarks. The Ambassador of Sweden for Special Assignments on Human Rights, Democracy, and the Rule of Law, Irina Shulgin-Nyoni, moderated the meeting.
The discussion emphasized that the human rights situation in Belarus remains critical as political repression continues and OSCE and UN recommendations are ignored. Participants emphasized the need for continued international pressure on the regime, support for political prisoners, and documentation of crimes against humanity.
Leanid Marozau: “Belarus remains a country where human rights violations have become part of the system. We must seek truth, justice, and accountability”.
