Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting in Vilnius today with NGOs providing assistance to political prisoners. Volha Zazulinskaya, Representative for Social Policy of the United Transitional Cabinet, chaired the meeting. Participants included representatives of the Association of Political Prisoners of Belarus, the Viasna Human Rights Center, Dapamoga, A Country to Live in Foundation, the Lithuanian Red Cross, and the Belarusian Human Rights House.
The discussion focused on:
- possible releases of political prisoners;
- necessary infrastructure to receive former prisoners and provide them with essential support, including housing, legal aid, rehabilitation, and psychological assistance;
- the International Humanitarian Fund.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Political prisoners should not divide us; this issue must unite us. It is crucial that, at the moment of release, the democratic forces, human rights defenders, and international partners act together. We need to pool all our efforts and all available resources”.
The meeting was organized by the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya in cooperation with the Representation for Social Policy of the United Transitional Cabinet.
