Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “More than five hundred years ago, the Battle of Orsha took place – one of the key moments in the history of Belarusians, when our ancestors defended their land from the invaders of the Muscovite state.
History repeats itself. Even centuries later, we yet again have to go through similar conflicts, defending the land of our neighbors and our own sovereignty. But just like five hundred years ago, victory will belong to those who cherish freedom and truth, who are able to unite in the face of the enemy and help one another.
It has now been three and a half years since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. During all this time, Belarusians from the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment and other formations have bravely fought in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defending Ukrainian land despite the danger and losses. The Russian dictator pretends to engage in peace negotiations but, together with Lukashenka, pursues escalation. In just a few days, the Zapad-2025 military exercises will begin. They will include nuclear planning. Russia’s imperial ambitions have not disappeared – they are only growing, and we Belarusians live right on the edge of these threats.
Today, more than ever, we must realize the value of Belarusian independence. Independence is the guarantee of a safe future for our children, the chance to live in a country where human dignity is respected and heritage is honored. It depends only on us whether Belarus will be free and peaceful”.
