Tsikhanouskaya met with Pekka Haavistom – former Finnish Foreign Minister and presidential candidate who narrowly lost to Alexander Stubb with 49% of the vote.
They discussed regional politics, potential scenarios for Belarus and the region, and coordination with the United States administration. Mr. Haavisto shared insights from his 2020 talks with Uladzimir Makei and negotiations with regime representatives aimed at resolving the crisis.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya spoke about the situation of Belarusians in Finland and called for supporting cultural initiatives and preserving national identity. The parties also discussed the regional military and political context.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya invited Mr. Haavisto to join the group “For a Democratic Belarus” and take part in the upcoming inter-parliamentary summit in Paris this October.
