  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the Italian Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

    July 18, 2025

    During the session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting with the Italian parliamentary delegation led by Lorenzo Cesa.

    Mr. Cesa emphasized that the situation in Belarus is regularly discussed in the Italian parliament, noting that Italy is home to the largest parliamentary group “For a Democratic Belarus” – bringing together more than 60 members of parliament.

    “I’m grateful to Italy and all Italian MPs for their unwavering support. Recently, we held a meeting of the Alliance ‘For a Democratic Belarus’ in Rome, and I invited Italian MPs to join the next meeting in Paris this October”, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya commented following the meeting.

    Mr. Cesa and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed:

    • The release of Siarhei Tsikhanouski and other political prisoners;
    • Support for Belarusians living in Italy;
    • The situation in Ukraine and its impact on regional security;
    • Threats to Belarus’ independence posed by Russia and the Russia-controlled Lukashenka regime;
    • Continued pressure on the regime until repression is fully stopped.

    “We must achieve not just the release of individuals – but irreversible democratic changes so that everyone can return home”, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya emphasized.

    She also called on Italian MPs to join the events marking the fifth anniversary of the 2020 Belarusian protests on August 9 and support initiatives in solidarity with political prisoners.
