In a new video message, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya explains why the release of Siarhei Tsikhanouski has not created divisions within the democratic forces – but instead became an important result of a collective effort. The democratic leader emphasizes that her Office continues its work until all political prisoners are released and democratic changes come to Belarus.
“Siarhei is free, and this is a great joy both for our family and for many of you. Today he is by my side, and that gives me strength, support, and a sense of stability. For our democratic movement, it is a boost of energy and determination.
His return, like the release of other political prisoners, is proof that our joint work is yielding results.
Some may have expected that Siarhei’s release would cause divisions within the democratic movement. But what kind of split can we talk about when we all share the same goals? The release of all political prisoners, an end to all repression, and truly free elections.
The democratic movement is strong as long as it embraces different views and approaches. Siarhei is an independent person – he has his own opinion and his own vision of how to contribute to our shared cause. And that’s normal. We are not competitors – we complement one another. While we are all different, we move forward together.
The Office remains committed and continues to carry its share of responsibility. The release of political prisoners and a peaceful resolution of the political crisis in Belarus remain our top priorities”.
