  • EU Commissioner Kos announced a new support package for Belarusian independent media and human rights defenders during a meeting with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya

    July 15, 2025

During her visit to Brussels, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Marta Kos.

Following the meeting, the Commissioner announced a new EU aid package for Belarus, focused on assisting independent journalists, human rights defenders, and civil society activists

During the conversation, the parties also addressed the possibility of further support for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Belarus Service and other independent media operating in exile and resisting the regime’s propaganda.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I am deeply grateful to our diplomatic partners who have stood with us for five years. You don’t see Belarus as a lost cause, but as a hope for change. No struggle can be won alone, and I thank you for supporting our fight against the regime. We represent an alternative to the ‘Russian world’ and to Lukashenka’s power. And we’re not walking this path alone. We stand with you – with all of Europe. I believe that one day we’ll celebrate our victory together”.

Note: The democratic forces of Belarus do not participate in distributing this aid – it is allocated through EU open calls and programmes.
