Today, during her working visit to Brussels, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya delivered a speech at the Rose-Roth Seminar, organized by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly to support partner countries and transitional democracies. This year’s focus is on NATO–EU relations and the resilience of democratic systems.
In her speech, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya reflected on her husband’s recent release after five years in prison and addressed the future of Belarus and the role of the country’s democratic forces in shaping it:
“As the democratic forces of Belarus, we are ready to lead our country toward democracy and a European path. We are already preparing reforms that will help integrate Belarus into the European and Euro-Atlantic community.
At the recent NATO Summit, we presented the Red Paper on the Belarusian-European security framework. It shows that Belarus is not only a source of threat but also an opportunity to strengthen our collective security.
Only a democratic Belarus can guarantee peace and stability in the region.
That’s why I always emphasize that supporting the Belarusian democratic movement is not charity – it’s an investment in our shared future”.
